I am a big believer in investing in clothing that you truly want to wear. Making sure that you are spending your money wisely. Putting a lot of thought into every purchase is essential when curating a wardrobe that you love to wear. Over the years I have invested in many items that have been my wardrobe saviors during the fall season. I wanted to share what has been my most successful purchases and what I believe most every fall wardrobe needs to be functional. This blog post lists all the fall clothing that I constantly reach for during the fall and even the winter season. I’m sharing these successful investments with you in the hopes that it will help inspire you to build a wardrobe full of items that you choose carefully and love to wear often.
1. Vintage 100% Wool Cardigan
I bought a vintage wool cardigan last year and it was a lifesaver when the weather started getting colder. The heavy material is the perfect layer for staying cozy during fall and winter. The cardigan style is perfect for layering over any kind of outfit but especially dresses. I bought this one on Etsy for $70 from Improv Goods which is not bad for a natural knit sweater. But I gotta say this fall clothing item was worth every penny because I wore it so much last year and I can’t wait to pull it out again this year. I will probably even buy another wool cardigan in a darker shade this year because the outfit options are really endless with this timeless style. If you are looking for a wool cardigan like this find my favorite of this seasons styles below.
2. Army Green Utility Jacket
My favorite piece of fall clothing in my closet is my army green Anthropologie jacket. It has probably been in my closet for almost a decade now! And it is still in really good condition. I think I spent around $175 on it and it has defiantly been one of my smartest purchases of all time. It has a velvet foliage detail that you just can’t find anywhere else. Plus it is lined which makes it a warm coat for both winter and fall. A simple green coat like this is essential for anyone’s fall wardrobe, the color looks so great with all the other warm autumn hues. I think it will be my go-to jacket until it falls apart. It is such a timeless piece that I love to wear.
3. Button-Up Brown Skirt
I bought this brown button front skirt from Adored Vintage. It is a classic fall clothing style and the kind of color that I like to wear year-round. But the warm brown looks especially beautiful with autumn colors. I am thinking I need more skirts in autumn hues with a midi and maxi length because they are a great feminine way to quickly freshen your wardrobe. A skirt always offers so many outfit options that is why I like to buy skirts more than any other clothing item.
4. Christy Dawn Dresses
I think every year we are all looking for ways to add more autumn clothing in various colors to our wardrobes and this dress was a perfect way to add an earthy, rust orange color to my wardrobe. The comfortable silhouette makes investing in this piece all the more worthwhile. I am more prone to wear something that is comfortable to wear all day. And I am always on the hunt for more dresses that meet the comfort factor. That little detail is more important than anything else. This orange color is no longer available on Christy Dawn but the style of the dress is available in a few other gorgeous materials and prints that you will have to check out and consider investing in. Find this style here.
I also invested in the long sleeve Dawn dress last year. It is another comfortable dress that I love to wear and layer for fall. The navy blueprint goes with so many different shoes and layering pieces in my closet. You must keep an eye out for this style to add to your wardrobe. I promise it will be worth it. I hope they come out with more long-sleeve dresses soon because I would love to add another Christy Dawn dress in another autumn hue. Adding a variety of colors and prints of the items I love helps keep my wardrobe functional and full of items I can mix and match.
5. Gal Meets Glam Dresses
Although Gal Meets Glam is not a sustainable brand, it is one of those brands I bend the rules for because the vintage silhouettes match my style and what I am looking for so well. There were several GMG dresses that I bought last year. A brown tweed, a red tweed, a check one, a navy blue one, a maroon one, and an autumn floral one. I bought all of them last year for the fall season and I am still obsessed with them. I can’t wait to pull them out of the closet and wear them again. They are so timeless and beautiful fall clothing items made by Gal Meets Glam. If you are a dress lover I highly suggest making the investment in a Gal Meets Glam dress especially the fall dresses. I am so glad that I made the investment in these dresses last year because I can’t wait to wear them again and style them in new ways.
6. Cashmere long vest sweater
The cashmere vest I bought last year from Poshmark is one of the coziest things I own and it is such an easy layer to throw over any fall outfit. It is especially handy when you have a shirt or a top with fancy sleeves that you don’t want to cover up with a cardigan. A long sweater vest allows you to flaunt the sleeve details while also staying cozy. I have such a soft spot for cashmere, there is really nothing that feels more luxurious. Cashmere does not have to be expensive either. It is nice investing this luxurious material when you have to but it can also easily be found second hand. I always find great deals for second-hand cashmere online and in the thrift stores. It is a must to try and buy your cashmere second hand first especially if it is in new or like-new condition for a small fraction of the retail price.
7. Toast Beanie
If you are looking for a nice quality hat made of natural materials you have to check out Toast. Toast is one of my all-time favorite brands for fall and winter clothing. But especially their knitwear. I bought my red beanie from them last year and I hope to buy another color this year from them. The red hat is the coziest hat I own and it adds a nice touch of color to an autumn outfit. I hope to add a couple more hats to my wardrobe this year in different colors. And I am saving up to buy one of their gorgeous sweaters. They are pricey but I can tell they are carefully made with quality natural materials in a sustainable way. If you are looking for any good investment pieces for fall you have to do yourself a favor and check out this brand.
8. Burgundy Red Bags
I will always love a red bag for fall. Although I would love to add a nice shade of green and navy blue to my wardrobe. Red is always a festive pop of color for the season. I bought the mini transporter tote in red from Madewell and I wore it all the time last year. It is time to start putting away the basket bags and pulling out the bags in autumn hues. I also bought another red bag because I am obsessed with the color so much and it resembles a mini Cambridge Satchel Company which I absolutely love to wear with my entire fall wardrobe.
9. Long Sleeve Dôen Blouses
The long sleeve blouses from Dôen are so perfect for fall especially pre-fall when the summer weather starts to fade. These blouses are a light layer and Dôen always comes out with the prettiest prints and colors. I recently bought the Jane blouse in clove and it is a color that everyone needs to add to their closet. A warm golden yellow that perfectly matches the world as it changes. I also invested in a floral rust orange blouse from Poshmark. And a cream blouse with dark red flowers that I have been wearing every season. These blouses will be worn on repeat no matter what season it is. I loved the first blouse that I bought from Dôen so much that I could not wait to add a few more to my wardrobe. Once you find a brand with tops that you love to wear often it is hard to resist adding a little variety to your wardrobe with different colors and prints.
10. Mini Skirt
There is no better time to rock a mini skirt than in fall. Having a variety of mini skirts is essential for optimal wardrobe mixing and matching. Especially between all the cozy sweaters and boots. This is an outfit combo that will always be around for the fall season. My favorite styles that I own are my plaid mini skirts, a red one and blue/green one, my army green skirt, my denim skirt, and my brown skirt. The plaid skirts I love to wear with contrasting autumn colors for a bold statement. I can’t wait to wear these skirts again this season and see where my creativity takes me.
