Investing For A Lifetime
In the winter time when we get outside of our house for a walk or to go to the grocery store, we can never leave the house without our trusty winter coat. This is especially true where I live here in Colorado. A coat is the thing that most people see us wear every day during the winter season. So choosing the right coat that is suitable for our lifestyle needs has to be carefully researched. And thoughtfully picked to define our unique style. If a winter jacket purchase isn’t well thought out that can mean more wasted resources and money on something that should last a lifetime. I can say confidently that this yellow Fjal Raven Coat is exactly what I have been looking for and I will be wearing it for many years.
A good winter coat should last a lifetime. The construction should be carefully executed. The design should be timeless. And most importantly, every material should be natural or recycled.
The Fjal Raven Coats
There are many outdoor clothing brands that work hard to produce a sustainable outdoor lifestyle clothing line that doesn’t hurt the planet. Ever since I bought this coat, I am considering Fjal Raven one of the top brands to consider whenever you are buying anything for your outdoor adventures. This is because they care about every detail that goes into their designs with the goal of creating an item like a winter coat, that is quality made and lasts forever.

The Fjal Raven Coat & Its Tailored Design
Every design that Fjal Raven makes has a specific purpose. Depending on your adventure, there is a jacket or clothing item designed for every circumstance. The consumer can trust the tailored and flexible design because it checks off their every desire. It is like they are mind readers.
One of the specs that I love about my jacket is the length. Not too long and not too short. So it keeps me even warmer than any other jacket that I have ever owned. The inside pocket is also a great feature that always seems to be missing in woman’s coats. Additionally, I am obsessed with the lightweight design that is easy to wear for any kind of weather condition in the winter time. This is especially important because the weather can change from sunny to snowy very quickly here in Colorado.
I hope to make wearing the same winter jacket for many years more of a fashion statement going forward. The need for less has heavily been weighing on my shoulders. So much so that I am not sure I can take on much more weight with the state of the world. We all need to consider how we can scale back our consumption on every level.
Fjal Raven’s Sustainability Practices
Finding a harmonious balance between function and natural materials is something that Fjal Raven does best. Recycled wool, organic hemp, organic tencel, recycled polyester are the materials most commonly used. Fjal Raven is also a leader in managing and eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals most commonly used by the outdoor clothing industry.
Fluorocarbons are famously used by the outdoor industry because of the water and dirt resistant qualities. But this chemical is the equivalent of Teflon pans. The chemical compounds do not break down in nature. It has been found to travel far distances by being stored in living organisms and can even work its way up the food chain. It is a carcinogen that has been found to affect reproduction and hormone production. Not exactly the kind of thing you want to be wearing when you are trying to reconnect to nature.
They are even trying to come up with more sustainable solutions with even the smallest of details like zippers. PCF is unavoidable in the world of zippers. So Fjal Raven is working to engineer a functional zipper that is free of these harmful chemicals.
Natural Materials & Animal Welfare
Animal Welfare is another component that Fjal Raven is transparent about. When an item is made of down, wool, or leather, they work hard to treat animal welfare as the highest priority at every stage. Down has been the first supplier that they have been able to follow the strict criteria when it comes to protecting these animals. Now they are working the kinks out with their wool and leather suppliers.

A For Effort
It may not be perfect. But at the very least they are a company that is trying. Which a lot more than most companies out there. And if their innovation with clothing can match their efforts towards more sustainable practices. Then they should be able to change the future of outdoor clothing brands. I look forward to seeing their breakthroughs. And purchasing more outdoor gear that I know I can wear for a very long time.
